AU REVOIR TAIPEI on Comcast Video-On-Demand for the month of January!

AU REVOIR TAIPEI on Comcast Video-On-Demand for the month of January!

This is really exciting: For the month of January, the critically-acclaimed film by Taiwanese American director Arvin Chen, AU REVOIR TAIPEI, is available to all Comcast subscribers in the US. It’s not even out on DVD yet, so this is the only way many of you will be able to watch the film if you didn’t catch it on the film festival circuit last year.

After screenings around the world, and awards in Berlin and San Francisco, AU REVOIR TAIPEI makes its on-demand premiere this month! Be sure not to miss incredible Taiwanese romantic caper comedy! Au Revoir Taipei is presented by Comcast’s new Asian American film service, CINEMA ASIAN AMERICA.

AU REVOIR TAIPEI, Director Arvin Chen
A lovesick boy and an adventurous bookstore clerk navigate Taipei’s night-markets, seedy alleyways and karaoke bars in search of love and more in this campy, colorful adventure-caper-comedy from Arvin Chen. Breezily incorporating elements of film noir, classic musicals, and Taiwanese gangster films, this dazzling romance is a tribute to being young, confused and utterly in love.

HOW TO WATCH:
• Au Revoir Taipei is available to purchase for view for all US Comcast digital cable customers with On-Demand for $4.99.
• Through your digital cable menu, viewers should click on the “On Demand” button, and then look under the “Movies” folder. In this will be a “Movie Collections” folder and inside of this viewers will find “Cinema Asian America” and will be able to access the film.

ABOUT CINEMA ASIAN AMERICA
In December, 2010, Comcast launched Cinema Asian America, a ground-breaking new video-on demand offering, which will feature Asian American films and videos. For the first time, millions of viewers across the nation are able to watch a monthly-curated series of Asian American and Asian films, which will collect together award-winning films fresh from the film festival circuit and classics which beg to be revisited. These films include both short and feature-length works and the genres range from documentary to narrative to experimental.

Happy Lunar New Year!

2011 is the Year of the Rabbit, so hop on over to the Taiwan Center on Saturday, January 29 to celebrate with Taiwanese American Professionals – San Diego (TAP-SD)! This annual celebration starts with dinner (dinner box) and is followed by an evening of performances. Throughout the evening they will have a free raffle.

Although this event is noticeably a first generation Taiwanese, they are very supportive of our group, and attending this is a way to show that we also support them. At least two acts will even have some TAP-SD members, so come on out and cheer them on. The event will end around 9pm; we can hang out afterward too.

Tickets are $10 if purchased in advance, $12 on the day. Tickets can be purchased at the TACC front desk, or contact Mike Chiu (mchiu@tap-sd.org).

Comedian Sheng Wang on Comedy Central – January 28

Sheng developed and honed his comedy in the thriving standup community of the San Francisco Bay Area. He performs jokes based on personal experiences with intense honesty and ill logic. His refreshingly affable stage presence combined with a healthy penchant for absurdity and self-deprecation make his act universally accessible and hilarious. In addition to touring with the Comedians of Comedy and American Eagle’s ‘Campus Comedy Challenge,’ he has also appeared on Comedy Central’s ‘Live at Gotham’ and on the AZN Network. In 2007, Sheng was selected to perform at the prestigious ‘Just for Laughs’ comedy festival in Montreal.
