The North American Taiwanese Medical Association - 2nd Generation Group - is a non-profit organization for Taiwanese American medical, dental, & healthcare professionals interested in advocacy, service, and cultural education.

Our Mission...

NATMA 2G is a community of health professionals interested in Taiwanese heritage and dedicated to cultural education, advocacy, and service.

A Multi-faceted Approach...

Advocacy

Identifying as Taiwanese or Taiwanese American is oftentimes inherently politically charged. However, our organization believes that we will remain politically engaged on issues that affect our community, but not necessarily biased towards any particular party (i.e. pan-Green vs. pan-Blue).

We hope to address issues that serve the interests of the Taiwanese and Taiwanese American people as a whole. These may include advocating for improvements in the following areas:
  • Taiwan issues - such as the entry of Taiwan into the World Health Organization / World Health Assembly, or the recent resolution of the listing of Taiwan as Taiwan rather than Province of China on Google maps and in Elsevier medical texts

  • Health Disparities as it relates to the Asian Pacific American community such as with Hepatitis B, Tuberculosis, certain malignancies

  • Disparities in access to health care for underserved Asian or Asian Pacific American communities

  • Health Policy at local and national levels (Local Propositions, National Health Care)

  • Research on Taiwanese American or Asian American health issues

Service

Community service has always been an integral part of the medical and health fields. NATMA 2G strongly supports projects and volunteer opportunities to benefit the Taiwanese American, the Asian Pacific American, and the diverse communities in which we live and serve. Projects and programs will be posted here as they evolve.

Currently, our discussion has revolved around such issues as:
  • Mentorship program for Health Professions Students / Residents

  • Health Education for the community (Avian flu, Hepatitis B, etc.)

  • Language and cultural competency resource to local/state health departments during community emergencies (such as Hurricane Katrina)

Cultural Education

With members of uniquely Taiwanese heritage, we strongly believe that our organization has a tremendous opportunity to share our strengths and values with our local and global communities as well as with each other.

We hope to bring you programs that continually expand our knowledge about Taiwanese and Taiwanese American history, culture, and heritage.
